Terms of business

These terms set out how we work together when you book a move with MKN Movers. If anything here isn’t clear, ask us before you book and we’ll explain it.

1. Quotes

A quote is based on the information you give us and, where relevant, a survey of what’s moving and the access at both ends. If the reality on the day differs materially — more to move, or access we weren’t told about — the price may change, and we’ll tell you before we proceed. Unless we say otherwise in writing, a quote is valid for thirty days from its date.

2. Booking and deposit

Your move is confirmed once you accept the quote and pay any deposit we ask for. If you cancel within fourteen days of paying a deposit, and the move date is not within that period, the deposit is refundable. Cancellations closer to the move date may be subject to a charge reflecting work already committed; we’ll always be clear about this at the time of booking.

3. Your responsibilities

Please make sure we have accurate addresses and access details, that parking and any permits are arranged where you’ve agreed to handle them, and that anything you don’t want moved is set aside clearly. Please also empty and disconnect appliances before we arrive unless you’ve asked us to handle that.

4. Care of your goods

We handle your belongings with care, wrap and protect them appropriately, and load them to travel safely. Please tell us in advance about anything fragile, valuable or awkward so we can plan for it. Some items — perishables, hazardous materials, and certain valuables — we may decline to carry; we’ll tell you if so.

5. Insurance and claims

We’ll confirm the cover that applies to your move before it goes ahead. In the unlikely event of loss or damage, please report it to us in writing within seven days of delivery so we can investigate properly while the details are fresh. We’ll deal with any valid claim fairly and promptly.

6. Payment

Unless we’ve agreed otherwise in writing, the balance is due on or before completion of the move. We’ll set out accepted payment methods when you book.

7. International moves

For moves abroad, transit times depend on the route, the crossing, customs clearance and any consolidation scheduling; your quote will describe the process rather than promise a fixed date. We prepare the customs documentation, but you’re responsible for supplying accurate information and any papers required to prove the move is a genuine change of residence.
